Anshu Christa Jacobson – Bansenshukai – Part 2

Seishin (correct heart/mind) is the essence of “nin”(忍) and is the correct heart and mind. The elements of “nin” (忍) are covert activity, information gathering, disguise, and surveillance. Without first having a correct heart, it is impossible to take advantage of strategy.

Koshi said that not cultivating the proper heart will cause confusion and distress. The meaning of “correct heart” is the adherence to virtue, righteousness, loyalty, and sincerity. Without maintaining virtue, righteousness, loyalty, and sincerity, it will be impossible to have intrepid spirit.

I hope that this helps with all of your training! Take Care, Be Safe and Good luck in your Journey of Budo!

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Bansenshukai – Part 1

Military affairs are a major importance to the state. It is the way of life and death, existence and cessation. It is an important matter and should not treat it lightly.

Therefore, we shall first specify the details, clarify the five matters and seven stratagems, and grasp the essence of a person’s heart and draw up the correct strategy. The five matters are, (1) wisdom, (2) virtue, (3) sincerity, (4) valor, and (5) austerity. These are not different from the three efficacies of (1) heaven, (2) earth and (3) man.

Even if you attack a huge army with mere one thousand soldiers, in one hundred battles you can be victorious one hundred times, and you shall not be in the risk of being defeated.

I hope that this helps with all of your training! Take Care, Be Safe and Good luck in your Journey of Budo!

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Official Fan Site

About a month ago a young woman from Russia that is a great supporter of the store contacted me and asked me if it was OK if she started the “Official Anshu Christa Jacobson” fan site.

When she first asked me I was shocked, I mean fan site,..really?…Why?

But then after talking more to her, I understood that she wanted to help, she wanted to help support the school and myself, to be honest I was completely humbled that someone wanted to go through all of the trouble to help support myself, my endeavors and the school. So I thought why not, it is not going to hurt anything.

So now, I have a fan running a fan site! She said that she is going to constantly update it as well as link all of my social media like facebook, myspace, twitter, etc, etc to it also. Just thought that i would share this with all of you, I know that a lot of it is not done yet with the photo albums and such, but it is published to the web, here is the URL, I hope that you all enjoy! Have a great day!

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Shoninki Study Part 11

SHONINKI – Part 11

Photo – Japanese Castle Moat

Mizudori no Kangae
Understadings of the Water Bird

Imagine you are looking at a place with where enemy spies are present, as well your own spies.

Your heart is racing very fast, you are a shinobi that is spying on the enemy,…at this point you need to approach this mission, like a water bird.

Many times people can be very easily distracted by the little things and will allow you to move freely towards your destination. This path is the same that is experienced by a bodhisattva or a person striving to attain illumination.

——-OLD POEM——-
The Shishui River of Hunan
Blue as the sky.
In the middle a water bird white as snow,
I aspire to become like.

Water birds and other animals are often found around the castle moats, stone walls, and other hard to reach places where spies will surely take up position.

The shinobi has to become one with the elements, if a sound is heard, the birds and other animals will surely fly or run off, this will alert the guard that you are there as a spy or something “not natural” there. So your presence has to be so natural that not even the water birds fly away.

There are many ways to cross the moat silently one of the many tools is the “Mizu Gumo” (water spider) In one description a device was worn like a harness around the hips and had small air pockets to keep the ninja afloat. Another way is to use the “Shindake” which is a bamboo tube around 4 feet long, used as an underwater breathing tube and a blowgun.

When it is time to climb the castle wall the shinobi should use a “kaginawa” (hooked rope) or use “kogai” these are long metal pins that the samurai (bushi) would use for many reasons, originally they were used to scratch the head while wearing a helmet, the kogai are easy to carry and the shinobi can use them to wedge in between the castle rocks to help climb up and in.

(there are many interpretations of this book, this is my personal interpretations; I hope that this can help you in your training.)

I hope that these words from Natori can help you on your journey of the arts. be Safe my friends.

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Ketsuin

Ninjas used to increse their concentration and skills before their important work, fights or battles. Originally Ketsuin was form the priests of the Singon religion (created by Kukai around 750) or Yamabushi. The method is to use 9 words (Rin) (Pyo) (Tou) (Sya) (Kai) (Jin) (Retsu) (Zai) (Zen) That is to say, first, speking (Rin) and moving the index finger of a right hand from right to left . secondly (Pyo) and moving the finger from top to down. And then doing the same deed. In doing Ketsuin, it is important toconsder the index finger as a sword.

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Gofu

In fact Ninjas were very religious. The reason was that Ninjas always faced the battle. It means that Ninjas were the border between death and life. So, Gofu were the very important charm. No.1Gofu is a protection from the diaster by the enemy. No.2 is to make good friends with the other or the couple, No.3 is not to be injured in battle, but no one put Ninjas know the difference among the three charms. The characters of Gofu were said to be written in blood to keep the person pure.

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Noroshizutsu

In Japanese Noroshizutsu means wolf smoke pipe. Noroshi was used to send signals. Ninjas were good at getting and sending information. As a fuel for noroshi, Ninjas put dry wolf’s dung into the pipe. The reason why ninjas used wolf dung because it added more smoke and more power.

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Nekonome Dokei

Ninjas were said to be a good observers of animals. Many ninjutsu were derived from imitating and/or watching various animals. In the old days people didn’t have watches, but Ninjas had the a substitute. They were cats’ eyes. Cats’ pupils change sharpness thruough out the times of the day. Ninjas compared the secret song remember the cats eye time: the cat’s pupil is round at Mutsu ( 5-7a.m.and 5-7 p.m.), egg’s shape at Istu Nana (7-9a.m. and 3-5p.m.), the shape of persimmon’s seed Yostu and Yatsu (9-11a.m. and 1-3p.m.), and the shape of needle at Kokonotsu (at noon)

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Shinobi Iroha

The Ninjas’ special code : Ninjas made the code difficult to decipher in oreder to prevent from breaking it. Shinobi-iroha was used by one school of 49 Iga Ninjas. The code consited of 49 letters, and two types of kanji. The left letters of kanji represent the 5 basical elements of Earth and 2 human represntations, they are wood, fire, earth, gold, water, man and body. Each of the right letters represent the colors, they are color, blue, yellow, red, white, black and purple

Anshu Christa Jacobson – SALT

Not as good as the Bourne Series, but it was still pretty good spy movie!  It had lots of great twist and action, hope that they make a part 2, love to see wher the director is going with the story.  I mean even in the Bourne series it was not till part 2 that they really got into his past and story, maybe they can do that with this movie???

For me 4 out of 5 stars

It was a good movie, somethings I think could have been better,…but if you are into SPY / CIA movies definitely worth watching! 🙂

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Oppression

“An oppressive government is more to be feared than a tiger.” – Confucius

Anshu Christa Jacobson – Diamond with a Flaw,…

“Better a Diamond with a Flaw, than a pebble with none” – Confucius

Anyone of my students that trains directly with me in the marital arts has heard this before  A diamond is a rare & precious stone. A pebble is a regular stone that you walk on and over hundreds of them everyday and do not pay attention.  To understand the me…aning is to understand who you are. Keep in mind that the word “flaw’ means opinion, so what is one persons view of “flaw” is another persons view of beauty.

Each of us is precious in our own way, rare, there is only one you. If you are who you are, if you live your life to be who you are, that is great, if you just want to be “normal’, like everyone else, no one, not even you will see the true potential and beauty.  Learn from your mistakes, and let those teachings make you a better person, Be who you are, because the ones that love and care for you will always be by your side, and always want you to be happy.
