I want to make a coment on conditioning and push-ups and sit ups ,,I read on one of your posts ,,,and about learning techniques and not being a real martial artist,,its like learning to box ,,,but not being a boxer,,,learning to wrestl ,but not being a wrestler,,, Ok ,,,first ,,I think you are great and realistic,,, there is a slight difference in my concepts ,,,,as I teach self defense ,,a ‘black belt’ certifacate is the top student grade ,,,after black belt ,,most everybody quit’s,, but my door is open and they alot of times come back,,, every body wants a black belt; that is fine ,,my black belts can qualifiy that rank given; as far as push ups ,,,i used to be a power lifter ,,,I damaged my shoulder joints in power lifting competitions,, I never hurt anything doing squat or dead lifts ,,,I now do and teach a modified (sissy type )of push up as I have found that push-ups in general and bench pressin in general are bad for the shoulder joints and leave micro tares that fill with lactic acid very quick and actualy stop the shoulders play in snapping out punches; sit ups are worthles and only tax the hip flexor….crunches are what should be done and not sit up that realy do no good and harm the lower back;I desighn a seris of exorcises and my students must do them at home ,,,they stretch a little bit ,at the begining of class ,,then we go into techniqu and drills and randori and kumate,,,,I start my technique slow ,,I use alot of -uchi komi=enter and not exacute technique,,,,,,I am over weight since industrial acidents that left me near a criple ,,and I stugle every day to get a better grip on my conditioning ,,I am massively powerful,,but I am on a mission to cut fat ,,as you say ,,fat just does not help anything,,you are right ,,,I found there are people that are naturaly fat and struggle there whole lives with it and are picked on horribly and jumped on and preyed up-on,,,I have a mission to help them ,,I have been doing martial arts for 45 years and hold more rank than CARTER HAS LIVER PILLS,,,,CUSS DE’AMOTO trained MIKE TYSON,,and CUSS could barly walk,,but you mentioned that age and injury excluded what you were trying to tell people ,,and you are right; I teach self defense ,,I teach TECHNIQUE and how to aply it ,,,I have not got time to run an exercise program,,my student must do this on there own for home work ,,and I have a home work coiculem that every body must do ,,,if they do it they will progress better ,,if they do not do it ,,then they will not progress as rapidly or aquire the profficency,,,I am 59 at this time ,,in 10 years ,,I will be not much more than some-one who tells people what to do but cant do that much as I used to ,,I will seem like I can do alot ,,but I will deminish,,,but I must be able to fight till my last breath ;
