In this video I (Soke Anshu Christa Jacobson) explain the importance of understanding the historical timeline of the ninja. This is because as the era changed, so did the techniques and reasons why the ninja did what they did. In the modern age, we are left with all of these techniques to study, understand and practice. Many think that “all” of the techniques are from the Sengoku Jidai, the age of the warring states. This is not true. In fact, if you understand the time periods, you would then understand what techniques came from what era, the context of the techniques and why the art of ninjutsu transformed from the Sengoku Jidai, through the Edo Period and into the Meiji Period.

The Budo Ryu Kai (Budo Ryu Ninjutsu) was developed by her personal research, training, experience, and combining all of these facets into a way to fully develop ones mind, body and spirit as one.

Not for sure why I have to openly discuss my personal life. This has nothing to do with the instruction of the martial arts or any of my other professions. However; I am an open and honest person that does not have any mean or cruel intentions. And for anyone to constantly belittle and harassment about my gender is hate. Hate at any level should not be tolerated.
.
I do not force my personal opinions or personal beliefs on my students in anyway. My job as a martial arts teacher is not to show them their way. It is to help guide them through their journey.
.
Any person regardless of Race, Religion, Sexual Preference, Gender, Hobbies, Political Stand, Conservative or Liberal as long as they have a good heart and are willing to be open minded and train, I would love to work with them in the art that I teach…Budo Ryu: School of the Warrior Way.
The time of talk, is in the past. Cowards and those of low skill and rank will dishonor themselves and the arts as they attempt to manipulate others opinions never showing any high level of skill, high level of strength or high level of ability in the warrior traditions.
.
A true master will let actions speak louder than words. They simply open the door and show you the way.

This is some of the video footage from our Koka-ryu Kempo Kuden Event for the month of December 2011.
In the training of this event we looked at the basic fundamentals of fist fighting methods of kempo, and the raw reality of using your fist as a weapon, to inflict pain on the attacker to protect your life.
Koka-ryu Kempo is one of the 7 Warrior Traditions of the Budo Ryu; School of the Warrior Way as the training goes in depth within the 7 traditions of the Budo Ryu Ninjutsu Dojo!
“When one has the feeling of dislike for evil, when one feels tranquil, one finds pleasure in listening to good teachings; when one has these feelings and appreciates them, one is free of fear.” – Buddha
Fear is a wonderful lesson in the natural elements of IN & YO
(Ying & Yang in Chinese).
Fear is a distressing negative sensation induced by a perceived threat. It is a basic survival mechanism occurring in response to a specific stimulus, such as pain or the threat of danger. In short, fear is the ability to recognize danger leading to an urge to confront it or flee from it (also known as the fight-or-flight response) but in extreme cases of fear (terror) a freeze or paralysis response is possible.
For this reason alone you have to understand yourself and how to read the sanshin (mind, body & spirit) within. If you understand how to look inside yourself and understand why you are feeling a specific emotional response, this gives you a greater chance for survival as now you are listening to your inner feelings, and using an educated strategy based on experience to back up the emotional gut feeling by physical action. I preach this type of strategy daily at the Budo Ryu Hombu Dojo. This is how warriors have been training for centuries; finding ways to be able to connect the mind and the body together in balance.
Remember a warrior acts; only fools react.
Next time you feel something such as fear, Fear (恐)

Next time you feel something such as fear, anxiety, depression or sadness, do not just react to this feeling, as you are not in balance and more than likely do something that you might regret. Act to the emotion correctly, by using your mind in balance with the inner feeling. Developing the strategy needed to follow out the objective. This can be anything from a natural feeling of fear and love, to a daily goal all the way to military procedure.
This is why Budo is in everything that we do, it is who we are, and this is what separates us from the ones that simply read books on martial arts and think that they know; action from wisdom.
There is an old saying “He who knows others is wise; He who knows himself is enlightened.” – Lao Tzu; 604 BC, Zhou Dynasty
I hope that you all enjoyed today’s lesson.
Take care, be safe and good luck in your Journey of Budo.
Togakure RyuSanto Tonko no Kata (Escaping Rat Methods) teaches the methods of using shuko, senban shuriken and metsubushi for escape in the case of discovery by the enemy. There are 12 kata in this section of training in the Togakure-ryu.
“It is difficult to understand the universe if you only study one planet”
This quote will mean something different to all of us as we read and study it. Think about this and apply it towards your life as well as your training. I wish you all the best in your Journey; Take Care and Be Safe.
This is some of the video footage from our Gyokko-ryu Kosshijutsu Kuden Event for the month of September 2011.
In the training of this event we looked at the basic fundamentals of the Kihon Happo as well as the Churyaku-no-maki scroll of the Gyokko-ryu school of Kosshijutsu.
Gyokko-ryu Kosshijutsu is one of the 7 Warrior Traditions of the Budo Ryu; School of the Warrior Way as the training goes in depth within the 7 traditions of the Budo Ryu Ninjutsu Dojo!
In this training event we looked at the Kodachi (小太刀) or short sword fighting skills from the Tenjin-ryu (天神流) and the Tomo-ryu (戸猛流). We also looked at many of the kata from the Togakure-ryu Shinobigatana (戸隠流忍刀). Towards the end of the training session we looked at various methods of Iaijutsu (居合術) with the Kodachi (小太刀).
I hope that you enjoy the video, thank you all for your support!
Take Care, Be Safe & Good Luck in your Journey of Budo.
YONIN (yojutsu / yoninjutsu) is infiltration when in plain view of the people, so you are dressed like them and moving in and out of the crowd. This is where the Shinobi Nanabake (ninja disguise) was used. Many say that Yonin is only done during the day and that is wrong. You can use this tactics day or night. Yoninjutsu; is for the very highly skilled ninja.
INNIN (Injutsu / Inninjutsu) is infiltration when you are not in plain view, you are staying in the shadows, not in the area of people at all, climbing on roof tops, staying in the shadows, staying in the rafters of the house to gather information, in this situation, your goal is to stay out of complete site of everyone, stay in the shadows and carry out the mission, this infiltration tactic is called Innin. Inninjutsu; is primarily used for the lower ranking ninja.
Yojutsu — could be any kind of infiltration in plain view of the enemy, so the use of disguise to move through the crowd is a essential (i.e., shinobi nanabake, yamabushi, komuso, performers, fortune tellers, etc).
Injutsu — is when the infiltration and information gathering is done completely unnoticed and in the shadows. So the classical black outfit, would be of use in this situation. For example, entering the enemy territory at night and hiding in the bushes during the day while observing the enemy’s movements.
If you look at the 2nd row from the right you will see:
YO (陽) NIN (忍) JO (上)
YO (陽) Means; Positive or Light. Hence the training of Yo-jutsu being done in plain view —
NIN (忍) In this case means Shinobi, or in modern term “Stealing in” —
JO (上) Means; Top, Above, Upper. So this where the idea of this type of training being done by upper level shinobi comes from. —
If you look at the 5th row from the right, a little over half way down you see:
Shinobi (忍) Iri (入)
This (忍入) is giving detail to the entering methods of the Shinobi, in many schools called “Shinobi-iri”

The lesson today comes from my own personal collection and study of these documents. All students know that one of the major documents that we use here at the school in reference to ninjutsu is the Bansenshukai. I hope that this helps with all of your training! Take Care, Be Safe and Good luck in your Journey of Budo!
